Bridge safe for boat passage

BARROW Bridge (16) on the Trent & Mersey Canal that was badly damaged has been made safe for boat passage.

BarrowBridgeThis is however on a temporary basis as the navigation will have to be closed later for a permanent repair, Keith Gudgin reports.

Immediately closed

The bridge was damaged by an heavy goods vehicle on Friday 26th April and was immediately closed for both road and boat traffic.

Contractors have attended and the bridge is deemed safe for navigation and reopened at 8am this morning, Wednesday.

But further work is required on the bridge and there will then be a closure, but as an update is not until the 17th May it will obviously not be in the near future.
