Birstall Lock closed again

BIRSTALL (4) Lock on the Leicester Section is closed again.

There was a leak from the cill of the top gates by the towpath side lock gate that has worsened, Keith Gudgin reports.

Worsened

This means the situation has worsened and the lock is no longer operational, but a crane boat is currently being mobilised that is required to lift the gate.

The trust tells that all being well it aims to have the lock open again within a week.

.The previous problems with gates on this lock occurred in June and July last year.
